1980 introduced the world's first 16-bit game console with the release of the Mattel Intellivision. Also, the first domestic home computers to play games in the UK were released by Sinclair Research and Acorn Computers; the ZX80 and the Atom respectively. In addition to this the companies Mindscape and Sierra On-Line were founded.
