Banjo is the main character of the Banjo-Kazooie series. He is a lovable, if not somewhat confused, honey bear that is always seen wearing yellow shorts, a shark-tooth necklace, and a blue backpack, which houses his partner and friend, Kazooie.

Banjo first appeared in Diddy Kong Racing (without Kazooie in-game, though she was mentioned in the Instruction Booklet), but was originally planned on starring in his own game even before then. Eventually, in 1998, he starred in Banjo-Kazooie for the Nintendo 64, in which he had to rescue his sister, Tooty, from the clutches of the evil witch, Gruntilda, who planned to steal her beauty and make it her own. She was eventually thwarted, however, and knocked off the top of her own lair and was buried underneath a boulder for two years.

Banjo would later on star in the sequel, Banjo-Tooie as well as several other games such as Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge and Banjo Pilot. He made his return in the game Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts which controversially tuned down the importance of Kazooie in favor of custom vehicles.
