BigWorld is an Australian company formed in 1999 that develop and license a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMO) and Virtual World engine. BigWorld was acknowledged as the industry leader in UK's Develop magazine
This engine provides an underlying software architecture needed for game developers to build an MMO. Published games using BigWorld Technology include Hokuto no ken ONLINE (GungHo Online Entertainment), Stargate Worlds (Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment) and Twin Skies (Meteor Games). There are also several unannounced titles from 38 Studios and John Romero's company Slipg8. The client technology is Windows PC only and the back-end server solution is implemented under Linux, with a Python API scripting environment. On the 6.6.08 Netease, a licensee of BigWorld released its Tianxia 2 MMO in China.
