Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is a game that was developed by Silicon Knights released on the Sony Playstation and PC in 1996 for North America, and 1997 in Europe. It was released in Japan under the title, "Kain the Vampire". It has since produced four sequels by Crystal Dynamics. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver on the Sony Playstation and PC, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 for the Sony Playstation 2 and PC, Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2 for the Playstation 2 and PC, Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo Gamecube, and Legacy of Kain: Defiance for the Playstation 2, Xbox and PC.

The story is probably the strongest point or one of the strongest of the series. It is about a nobleman named Kain who was murdered by assassins on a cold night after being kicked out of a bar. The necromancer, Mortanius, offered him a chance for vengeance and he took it and was reborn as a vampire. He hunted down the brigands who killed him and thought his quest was over. But Mortanius told him they the assassins where only pawns and to find the ones told him to look to the pillars of Nosgoth to find The real perpetrators . Kain travels to pillars where he a meets a spectre named Ariel, the original balance guardian who is killed in the games intro.Ariel tells Kain that the pillars have fallen into ruin because of her death, and the insanity of Nupraptor, the mind Guardian. Ariel also tells Kain that the only only way to restore balance to the pillars is to kill the existing Guardians, so that new ones can be born. Kain reluctantly Begins his journey to restore balance.
