The British Board of Film Classification system (BBFC for short) is used for rating films in the UK. Games are also included as a medium that is required to be classified under the Video Recordings Act. However, games are generally exempt from classification unless they contain certain types of content, that can loosely be described as "Adult".
The BBFC system has 8 different ratings, but only the 15 and 18 ratings are commonly used for games:
Game Rating
---
Americas
ESRB (United States/Canada)
Europe
PEGI (most of Europe) • BBFC (UK) • ELSPA (UK, retired) • USK (Germany) • VET (Finland)
Asia
CERO (Japan, console) • EOCS (Japan, PC)
Australia/New Zealand
OFLC (Australia) • OFLC (New Zealand)
