Canabalt is a survival platform game developed and released by Adam Atomic and Danny B. It was produced in August 2009, as part of a monthly contest for the Expermental Gameplay Project blog, following the "Bare minimum" theme.
The one-button game was first created using Flixel, and was later ported to iOS and Android devices.
The game only requires a single button, whether it is a mouse, keyboard, or touching the screen.
The objective of the game is to run as far as possible, using the button to jump from rooftop to rooftop. The buildings vary in spacing, distance and height, but will always have a route that allows you to make a successful jump. In addition, you will need to deal with obstacles that appear along the rooftops:
- You will have to dash through buildings with a small window and corridor, requiring a precise jump.
- With a one-building warning sounding like a loud pop, a bomb will drop in the middle of a building.
- In the iOS version, you will get a one-building warning sounding like creaking metal. The next building will be obliterated, leaving only a small platform.
