My own comments: The categories will probably eventually become the primary means of finding games. Although this does make dual titles problematic, for instance, "Star Fox" is known as "Star Wing" in some countries. "Star Fox 64" is also known by the much different title "Lylat Wars". If people want to find a game by an alternate title, then redirects would also have to have the same categories. That's too hard to maintain; adding a category to a game description involves adding it to all the redirects. I'm not sure yet what would be a good solution to this problem.

  • Actually, this is a very minor problem. Those looking to find games under a particular name can search for it. Categories are more for "browsing" and finding related and similar games than for finding particular games. --Gherald 05:22, 29 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Also, the main reason we have these lists now is to give ourselves ideas where to expand. For instance, many games on the SNES list don't have pages yet but if I were to go around adding pages I would probably add pages for those games first. I understand other users may have no interest whatever in those games and either ignore the lists or just add their own items to it; that is fine. I think it might be best to keep the status quo for now, but I'm biased since I created it in the first place...

  • I recommend creating a stub for each game currently on these lists that contains the [[Category:foobar]] among other things such as a brief one line description or links to relevant external sites, etc. Then, on e.g. the PS2 article page, link to Category:PS2 as being the "list of PS2 games" or whatnot.

I do support the formalization and organization of categories, though. I'm all for that. - furrykef (Talk at me) 02:18, 29 Oct 2005 (UTC)

  • Is it ok if I start implementing the above, then, and link to this a being a major project (do you have a central TODO list somewhere?) NB: I don't know how active I plan to be on this wiki; I'm mostly offering organizational advice for now. --Gherald 05:22, 29 Oct 2005 (UTC)

The closest thing I have to a to-do list is here: Project:Wiki tasks. Go ahead and implement your organization scheme but I'd still like to keep the lists for now. It makes it easier for me to add pages en masse when I'm in the mood to do so. - furrykef (Talk at me) 21:14, 29 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Should an FPS category be called something like "First Person Shooter Games" or "First Person Shooters"? I'd like to know before I create the category.--Drizzt 03:32, 30 Oct 2005 (UTC)

  • FPS is fine. The page Category:FPS can say "This is a category for First Person Shooter games". I would suggest CFPS for computers, but I guess that's not exactly as common of a term as CRPG. Maybe "Computer FPS" --Gherald 05:22, 30 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Just wondering, should all Gameboy (from the original) to the advance be considered one category?--Drizzt
