Dead or Alive 3 (DOA3) is the third game in Team Ninja's famous Dead or Alive series. The game once again featured a massive visual upgrade over it's predacessors, taking advatage of the powerful Xbox hardware. The game included an improved 8-way run, and new moves like air-grabs and variable length "charge-ups". The countering system was made simpler still, combining kick and punch counters into a single move.

The game was only ever released on the Xbox, however there was a slightly "enhanced" version of the game released for European and Japanese markets that featured new moves, balance tweaks (Most infamously, Hayate's cartwheel), new costumes and an a CGI intro. This later made it's way into America, partially at least, through the Dead or Alive 3 Booster Disc included with several editions of the official Xbox magazine (And later as a bonus in Dead or Alive: Ultimate.) The disc would install the new costumes onto the Xbox's harddrive and you could watch the intro video on the disc (However, you couldn't install it). Sadly the new moves and balance tweaks were not included.
