Darksiders is a game created by Vigil Games. During development, it had the subtitle "Wrath of War", but this was dropped prior to release.

Plot

The story focuses on War, one of the four horseman of the apocalypse. The apocalypse has taken place prematurely, and with the world destroyed before its time, War is stripped of most of his divine powers. Not about to take this standing down, War sets out to find the other horsemen and who is responsible for instigating the premature apocalypse.

The Art of War

The player is in control of War, one of the four horsemen. He will be able to use swords, scythes, guns, and good old-fashioned fisticuffs to dispatch his enemies. Weapons can be customized with various enhancements. You can even upgrade your armor by collecting pieces and visiting a smith.

Defeating enemies will fill up your Wrath Meter. By building up wrath, War's equivalent of mana, War will be able to unleash fearsome attacks on his foes. Examples of such attacks include explosive bombs, sharp blades, and supernatural serpents.

The controls are simple. The left analog stick moves you, the right analog stick controls the camera, the left trigger centers the camera, the right trigger fires the gun, and the lower face button lets you jump. Pressing it again while in the air allows you to double jump. Hold it down after your double jump and War's black angel wings unfold, allowing you to glide.

As a member of the four horsemen, War obviously needs a steed. Around halfway through the game you'll get War's horse, Ruin. With one touch of the shoulder buttons, Ruin will materialize out of thin air and War will mount him. Ruin can be summoned and dismissed quickly, allowing the player to utilize him in combos.

Now that mankind is extinct, money isn't worth much. Early in the game, the player will meet a soul trader who will trade equipment and abilities for souls. Luckily, War has a soul harvesting ability. By defeating enemies and breaking things in the environment, human souls will be released into the air and War will absorb them.

Weapons of War

War's primary weapons are his sword and gauntlet. War's sword, called the Chaos Eater, will build up power with continuous attacks, using a multiplier like in Devil May Cry. As the sword gains power, it will literally grow in size, becoming more destructive with each swing, and the player will have the choice of either continuing to wield the growing power or unleashing it.

War starts out with only his giant sword and gauntlet, but as he progresses through the game he will acquire other weapons. War does not meet the other three horsemen but will gain weapons from them, such as Death's scythe. War will also obtain items known as "gear". Known examples of gear are the crossblade, a giant ninja star and War's first ranged weapon, and a grappling hook. War's horse, Ruin, can also be considered gear. War is not limited to using these weapons and gear to defeat his enemies, however. He can, for example, pick up a car and use it as a club.

the player will take the role of War, one of four horsemen destined to bring about the end of the world. Bible Verse: And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the beast say, Come and see. And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another. Another of the horsemen is Death, who has long hair, a skull-like mask, and of course, his scythe. Bible Verse: And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto him over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

Fury

Fury is the only female horsemen and possesses a whip. The beast in her bible verse is commonly interpreted as being the Antichrist, but this ignores much of the imagery in the Revelation. also called Conquest or Victory

Bible Verse: And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

Bible Verse: And when she had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and she that sat on him had a pair of balances in her hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou not hurt the oil and the wine.

Angels

Joe Madureira's Angel

The angels in this game have been designed to look more like a "warrior race" than the typical depiction with white robes and angelic wings. Instead of being depicted as being peaceful and gentle, they are depicted as a fierce, warrior race.

Demons
