The Combatribes (コンバットライブス ) is a Beat 'em up arcade game by Technos released in 1990. Later it was ported to the Super Famicom.
Story[ | ]
In near future three vigilantes decide to clean up the streets in the city.
Gameplay[ | ]
The player can choose from three types of character: strong but slow, balanced, and fast but weak. If playing three player mode the players cannot choose their characters. There are a variety of moves in the game and some weapons. Versus mode has three arenas with their own hazards. The versus mode can be played with boss characters with a password found in main game. Main characters can block in versus mode.
Version differences[ | ]
The Arcade version was changed a little for its western release. The Super Famicom version was changed and there are also regional differences. Intro, dialogue, cut-scenes and versus mode were added. Some enemies and levels were removed or changed. the HUD was changed. Numerical life changed to a life bar, among other minor changes due to platform differences. The North American version had blood recoloured to look like saliva, sweat and tears. Character can be changed at continue.
In the Wii Virtual Console release of this game, further changes were made; all of the words mentioning "Ground Zero" were replaced with "Guilty Zero" due to the World Trade Center terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. However the 2 World Trade Center towers in the background of the game itself remain unchanged.
