Halo is a First-person shooter created by Bungie that premiered as a launch title for the Xbox in 2001. It was later ported to PC and Mac by Gearbox software. It features the cyborg supersoldier Master Chief fighting against the Covenant, a inter-species alliance of aliens, on a ring world.

Sequels: Halo 2, Halo 3

Story

500 years in the future, the UNSC is attacked by the Covenant, a group of aliens who worship the Forerunner, an ancient race. When the Pillar of Autumn is attacked, it flees to a random point in space, where Halo is discovered. The ship crashes, and its cargo, the Master Chief, is sent to find out Halo's purpose. He discovers that it was made to destroy all sentient life in the galaxy, wiping out the Flood's, another alien race, food supply. He overloads the crashed ships engines, destroys Halo, and escapes the burning ring to return home.

Halo's Effect

Many claim that the Xbox's success is largely due to Halo carrying the burden of the console entirely on its back. While this is not completely true, it was the most respected game in the library for quite some time, and the number of people poised to buy Halo 2 on or shortly after its launch was extremely impressive. Red vs Blue, a machinima film series, was created with the Halo game by former writers of Drunkgaming.com, and has garnered much acclaim for its witty dialogue and snappy editing. The series has inspired many other game players to make their own films with a variety of titles.

Alternate Ending

If you beat the game on Legendary you will see a different ending before the Pillar of Autumn blows up. Instead of a whole bunch of flood coming to the ship outside, you see Sergeant Johnson and a covenant Elite wrestling over a gun. After that they both see the ship ready to blow both hug.

Easter Eggs

On the last level, The Maw, there is a grunt that says, "Good thing that food-nipple's waiting for me at the starship 'cause man, have I worked up a big grunty thirst!" There is also Rex written in blood near the end of the stage on a wall.

Halo movie

The Halo movie has been signed by Universal with Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, King Kong) as director. An early script was written by Alex Garland, writer for 28 Days Later and The Beach. In July 2006 D.B. Weiss, author of the book Lucky Wander Boy, was announced as the new writer for the Halo movie script.
