Japan has made numerous contributions to both video games and the hardware they run on. In particular, Blu-ray, CD-ROM, Laserdiscs, DVD, video cassettes, MIDI, FM Synthesis, LCD, TFT, Floppy disks, micrprocessors, Flash memory, dynamic RAM, as well as portable versions of many home devices (such as TVs, projectors and laptops), all originated either in Japan, or were designed in large or significant part by Japanese engineers, sometimes working with non-Japanese corporations.
