Meryl Silverburgh is a character in the Metal Gear series starting with Metal Gear Solid. In MGS, she is introduced as the 18 year old niece of Solid Snake's commander, Roy Campbell, and is also a rookie in the US Military. Prior to the events of Metal Gear Solid, she is assigned to the island of Shadow Moses for a field exercise. Refusing to take part in the rebellion, she is imprisoned along with DARPA chief Donald Anderson and ArmsTech president Kenneth Baker.

Escaping her cell, she meets Solid Snake and shortly afterwards is in constant contact with him via Codec, supplying him with information and support. Later in the game, she is recaptured by Sniper Wolf and used as bait to lure Solid Snake into his own capture. Depending on the player's actions at this point, she is either saved later by Snake or found dead, at which point the ending switches to the non-canonical version (which also reveals that she is actually Colonel Campbell's biological daughter). Canonically, she is saved and escapes the island along with Snake and they apparently live together afterwards for approximately 6 months before going their own ways.

In 2014 (during the events of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4 at age 27), she reappears as the commander of the "New Foxhound" RAT Patrol Team 01, a division of the US Army's CID sent to investigate Liquid Ocelot's PMC organization.
