Rayman Origins is an upcoming episodic platforming video game developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and published by Ubisoft for Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network, while PC, PS2 WiiWare, Nintendo 3DS and iPad are being considered.[5]

Rayman Origins will detail the origin and early times of its titular character. The only media released thus far is a trailer that was prepared for E3 2010.

While the trailer features some throwbacks to the first game in the series (whose storyline and characters have remained unreferenced by later games aside from featuring Rayman himself, though that game's character Space Mama was mentioned on the French Rayman 3 website[citation needed]), Ubisoft is marketing the game as a prequel, in which it is explained how an immature and uncontrollable Rayman and his grotesque companion Globox become the heroes of Rayman 2: The Great Escape and later games.[6] The continuity implications of including Globox (who first appeared in Rayman 2) in a game apparently set before the series' debut, as well as the disappearance of that game's characters (e.g. the Electoons and Mr. Dark) are yet to be explained, perhaps via a reboot.

Rayman Origins will feature Rayman and Globox, who will sport more immature personalities which they apparently possessed prior to the events of 'later' games in the series.[6] The game is said to run in 1080p at 60 frames per second[7] and will be released in an episodic format.[3] The first episode will be released at the end of 2010 for Xbox 360 and PS3, while other platforms and the rest of the episodes will be released in 2011.[4]
