Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots is the expansion pack to the hit real time strategy (rts) game, Rise of Nations. Published by Big Huge, the expansion pack brings a few new additions; new wonders new civilizations, new unique units, new conquer the world single player campaigns,the addition of governments, and leaders.
The biggest change from the expansion pack from the original is the addition of the leaders and governments. Governments change the flow of the game to be more fast paced because it allows economic based players to advance faster and it allows rush type players the advantage to rush earlier by making military units cheaper and military bonuses.
Leaders also correspond to the government you choose; if you choose an economic government, you will receive a leader in general that is will allow you to build faster, give defensive bonuses to building, heal troops in friendly territory, given that the troops, buildings, are in the radius of the leader. If one chooses to go into an military state the leader will in general give supply, increase damage, and other military bonuses.
As a note, this game is one of the best rts games ever made, although this game is aging, there is still a faithful community that play this game.
Big Huge make a sequel to Rise of Nations like Rise of Nations II, not some junk like Rise of Legends.
