SOCOM: Confrontation is an upcoming third person tactical shooter video game developed by Slant Six Games for the PlayStation 3 and is the sequel for the SOCOM series. It is being published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The game will support up to 32 players and will be sold both on the PlayStation Store and on a Blu-ray Disc.

The game is scheduled to be released September 16, 2008 with the launch of their new website SOCOM.com on March 27, 2008.[1] The game was originally scheduled for a Summer 2008 at the Game Developers Conference by SCEA's Scott Steinberg. [2] The game was first announced at the SCEA's Gamers Day at their Santa Monica Studios.

Seth Luisi announced that there are at least five different North African themed maps including Socom II: U.S. Navy Seals famous "Crossroads." No further map info has been released there are however rumors of additional maps.

Slant Six Games has no plans at this time to include vehicles as it wants the maps to be more "intimate" instead of larger styled maps of SOCOM 3.

Zipper Interactive, the developers of all previous SOCOM titles, are also working on their own installment for the PlayStation 3. Unlike Confrontation, it will feature both single player and mutiplayer modes, and the extra development time will also give them the opportunity to work on new features for the game. According to Seth Luisi, SOCOM 4 will be a "drastic departure from the current game."
