World of Warcraft is a MMORPG released by Blizzard Entertainment in the fall of 2004. It continues the story of Blizzard's Warcraft universe, picking up where Warcraft III and its expansion Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne left off.

There are two expansions for World of Warcraft with a third on the way. The first expansion, titled World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, was released on January 16, 2007, the second, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, was released on November 13, 2008, the third, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, was released on December 7, 2010, and the fourth, World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, is due for later release.

The playable factions were once split into Alliance and Horde, each containing four races and nine classes, one of which was unique to each faction. Currently, there are six races for each of Alliance and Horde, one neutral race and eleven classes.

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade added a new race for each faction (Draenei for the Alliance and Blood Elves for the Horde) and made all classes available to both factions. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King added the Death Knight class. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm adds the Worgen race for the Alliance and Goblins for the Horde. World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria adds the monk class and the first neutral race: Pandaren.
