The development of FBL started in November–December 2007. Prodigium Game Studios use motion capture to record the moves and put them into the game. They got the idea to make FBL in the 1990s when they were playing in Division 3 in Valkeakoski's Haka.[dead link]
- Classic – choose to control either all players in their team, or only one player at a time.
- Position – control a player in a specific position.
- Superstar – control only one specific player in their team.
- Wall – control the goalie.
- Penguin – control the referee in the matches.

- January 18: Prodigium Game Studios opens the official website and forums for the upcoming FBL09 floorball game.
- January 24: Prodigium Game Studios is interviewed at Salimania.
- February 24: A new status update appears on the official FBL website.
- March 25: A new status update and new screenshots appear on the official FBL09 website.
- May 19: A new status update and new screenshots appear on the official FBL09 website.
- June 29: A new status update and new screenshots appear on the official FBL09 website. It is already possible to play one period completely.
- September 1: A new status update and new screenshots appear on the official FBL09 website.
- October 18: A new status update appears and Prodigium Game Studios decides to stop publishing status updates monthly.
- July 5: A new status update appears on the official FBL website.
- December 24: A roadmap for year 2010 is announced. The target release date for the first demo of the game was January 31, 2010 (real date was February 1, 2010). It is a training session demo.
- The gameplay demo was released on July 31, 2010 and the final version of the game will be released in December 2010.
The development of FBL has drawn much attention to the public, with organizations all around the world willing to support the development of FBL.
- In late April 2008, the Finnish Salibandyliiga announced that they were going to support the development of FBL09.
- In January 2009, the Slovenian Floorball Association confirmed they were going to support the development of FBL09.
- Between April 28–29, 2010, the Annual Nordic Game Conference was held in Malmö, Sweden. The conference only applies to video game developers in the Nordic countries. Prodigium Game Studios were able to attend the conference that year. Out of about 100 nominated video game developers, Prodigium Game Studios was one of the only six lucky developers to be granted support for their current development of their specific video games. The Nordic Game Program will support the FBL09 development.
