A game save is a feature in a game that allows for the player to stop his current game at the last point he has reached in the game and pick it up at a later time.

Originally this feature was used in computer games as they were designed to save onto rewritable storage media such as floppy disks and hard drives that personal computers used. By the dawn of the third videogame system generation, this feature became increasingly prominent in videogames as they became increasingly complex and took longer to finish than those of previous generations. The two most common forms of game saving on videogame systems are password entry and file-saving.
