Half-Life: Opposing Force is the first official expansion for Half-Life. Developed by Gearbox Software, Opposing Force (Op4) stars a soldier named Corporal Adrian Shephard, one of the marines sent into Black Mesa during the alien invasion. The game received critical acclaim, being named Best Expansion and even Game of the Year, by several publications. It added eight new weapons, several new monsters (Including the new Race-X species), new features like climable ropes and the ability to lead a squad of soldiers around. One of the more unique things about the game is how the player is able to explore new areas of Black Mesa during the same time as he did in the original Half-Life, and even catch a glimpse of Gordon Freeman himself!
