Harmonix is a game developer specializing in music games. They are based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They have developed a reputation as innovative game designers after working to make music accessible to game-players, and have developed a cult following with the release of Frequency, Amplitude and their latest release, Guitar Hero.
On September 22, 2006, it was reported by the New York Times that Harmonix would be bought out by cable television giant, MTV. Harmonix was purchased for $175 million.
