Batman: Vengeance is an Action Adventure game based on the Batman: The Animated Series license. You play as Batman, using a variety of gadgets to progress linearly through the games levels. The game attempts to emulate an episode of the show, including credits appearing as you progress through the first level, or loading screens that are designed to look like episode titles.

The game features full voice acting from the critically acclaimed cast of the television show, including Kevin Conroy reprising his role as Batman and Tara Strong as Batgirl.

Gameplay

Since it was an early sixth generation console game, Batman: Vengeance does not meet some standards that were later set. For example, the camera cannot be moved in any direction you wish, but is automatically thrown behind Batman whenever you tilt the camera stick in any direction, similar to the use of the Z-button in Super Mario 64.

Movement is simple, allowing Batman to run, slide up against walls, look around corners, jump, glide with his cape, and shield himself. The controls change once he encounters an enemy, forcing it into a nearly 2D fighter experience, where Batman faces and enemy and the camera is locked on the side. Here, all the buttons become various punches and kicks until the enemies are gone. At this point, the controls return to the standard movement set up.

The gadgets can be nearly at any time from a first-person perspective. However, most of them have limited ammo, so you can't just throw 50 Batarangs at every enemy. They are designed to be conserved, so that players only use them when most important, such as disarming an enemy. Every gadget can be used on an enemy except the grappling hook, which can only be used to latch onto specific "grapple points."
