From its inception, Kameo: Elements of Power has gone through many revisions and delays. It began development at the end of 1999, after Rare's completion of Donkey Kong 64. Kameo was originally slated to appear on the Nintendo GameCube. However, with the Microsoft purchase of Rare in late 2002, production shifted to the Xbox and it was given an expected release date of sometime in 2003. It was subsequently delayed and then put on permanent suspension in 2004. As rumors of the Xbox 360 began to float around the internet ether, whispers of a possible Kameo resurrection began to emerge. Low and behold in early 2005 it was confirmed that, indeed, Kameo: Elements of Power along with a sequel to Rare's Perfect Dark, titled Perfect Dark Zero, would be in the Xbox 360 launch line-up.
Kameo is rated Teen by the ESRB for Animated Blood and Violence.
