List of Professor Layton Characters shows a list of important characters and recurring characters throughout the Professor Layton Nintendo game series. ==Main characters== ===Professor Layton=== Professor Hershel Layton is the series' main character. He is a stereotypical English gentleman, who enjoys solving puzzles and drinking tea. He is a professor of archaeology at London's Gressenheller University. Because of his prowess at solving puzzles and mysteries, he is well-known throughout London and the world. He also has a recurring quote, being: 'That's what a gentleman does'. The signature feature of his appearance would be his brown top hat, complete with a red sash, which he wears along with an orange shirt under a brown high collared coat with matching pants. He is voiced by Yo Oizumi in Japanese and Christopher Miller in English. ===Luke Triton=== Luke Triton is Professor Layton's apprentice and number one fan. He aspires to be a gentleman like his professor, though like all boys his age, he has a tendency to let a cheeky remark slip out. He is fond of puzzles, animals, teddy bears, and the color blue. Luke is also able to understand and converse with animals, which has proven helpful in his adventures with Layton. He is voiced by Maki Horikita in Japanese, Lani Minella in US English and Maria Darling in UK English. ===Emmy Altava=== Emmy Altava Professor Layton's assistant, as appointed by the President of Gressenheller University. She is said to be a heroine, and loves taking pictures, bringing her camera everywhere with her. She is voiced by Aibu Saki. ===Flora Reinhold=== Flora Reinhold is the daughter of the wealthy Augustus Reinhold. She is sweet, shy, and reserved, but can show her stubborn side when dealing with others' concerns for her safety. After the events in the Curious Village, she becomes Layton's ward and sometimes accompanies Layton and Luke on their adventures. Flora also loves to cook, but to the dismay of Layton and Luke, she's rather bad at it. She is voiced by Mamiko Noto in Japanese, and Lani Minella in English. ===Don Paolo=== Don Paolo is the main villain of the first three games. Don is a scientist and inventor, though because he uses his research and inventions for evil purposes, he's - understandably - rather disliked. He despises Layton with a fierceness that baffles even said professor. His hate harbored for Layton is revealed in Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. When he is not plotting evil, Don Paolo enjoys listening to and making music. He is voiced by Christopher Miller in English. ===Jean Descole=== Jean Descole is the new villain of the second trilogy. He is responsible for the evil happening to the town. He is confident Layton can solve the mystery, and wants to put an end to the professor's work. ===Inspector Chelmey=== Inspector Chelmey is the police chief of London's Scotland Yard. It is said that he strikes fear into the heart of all criminals in London. Despite this, it seems that Layton and Luke always manage to be one step ahead of the inspector. When not working, he enjoys his wife's sweet potato fritters. He is voiced by Christopher Miller in English. ===Inspector Clamp Groski=== Inspector Clamp Groski is a police inspector from Scotland Yard (replaces Inspector Chelmey), and has a fiery passion for mysteries that require his expertise. He is also very athletic and energetic, and sports a distinctly protruding bush of chest hair. ===Granny Riddleton=== Granny Riddleton is a recurring character, first appearing chronologically (though not present for the rest of the game) in the Specter's Flute. Most people view her as a witch, presumably due to her get up. She appears throughout Layton and Luke's adventures, gathering all of the puzzles that they've missed and puts it in a small hut. She has a granddaughter in the Unwound Future. ==Curious Village Characters== ===Baron Reinhold=== Baron Augustus Reinhold passed away, leaving behind a legendary family treasure - the Golden Apple. He was said to be a kind and caring man. ===Lady Dahlia=== Lady Dahlia is the mistress of the Reinhold Manor, following Augustus Reinhold's death. She has a cold, snappy and snobby demeanor, but shows her sweet side when dealing with Flora. She sends a letter to Layton asking for his assistance in solving the mystery of the Golden Apple. ===Matthew=== Matthew has faithfully served as the Reinhold Manor's butler for many years. He has a constantly worried expression, which could be due to Lady Dahlia's constant demands. ===Simon=== Simon is one of Lady Dahlia's cousins. He appears early in the game and he acts somewhat stuck up. ===Gordon=== Gordon is another friend of the Reinhold family. He too is extremely wealthy, though frets constantly about attracting the ladies. ===Ramon=== Ramon is the Reinhold family's gardener. He's known in the village by most as 'that man with creepy purple lips'. He tends to hang out at Crouton's cafe rather than working. ===Stachenscarfen=== Stachenscarfen, also simply known as Stachen, is one of the villagers of St. Mystere. He later makes cameos in the next two games. At the end of the first game's credits, he is shown exiting St. Mystere. Much about Stachenscarfen remains a mystery, because he randomly appears in various locations without any explanation. ===Claudia=== Claudia is the pampered feline pet of Lady Dahlia. This fluffy little cat may have a delicate name, but the truth is that she is actually a he. ==Diabolical/Pandora's Box Characters== ===Dr. Schrader=== Dr. Andrew Schrader is Professor Layton's old mentor. He is a polite and intelligent man, who falls victim to the Elysian Box as a result of researching its curse. He sends a letter to Layton before falling victim to the curse, leading Layton and Luke on to find the cause behind his death. ===Katia Anderson=== Katia Anderson is a mysterious young lady, who is seeking the Elysian Box. As the daughter of the mayor of Dropstone, she is well known in her town, and is said to be a beautiful, sweet girl. ===Anton Herzen=== Anton Herzen is rumored to be a vampire inhabiting Folsense's Herzen Castle, seeming not to age at all for 50 years. He has a strong connection to the Elysian Box. ===Mr. Beluga=== Mr. Beluga (birth name is Fredrich Herzen) is the founder of the Molentary Express, as well as being Sammy's uncle and the younger brother of Anton Herzen. He too is in search of the Elysian Box. ===Sammy Thunder=== Samuel "Sammy" Thunder is the train conductor of the Molentary Express, and the nephew of Mr. Beluga. Despite his job, Sammy acts like a rockstar, and loves nothing more than to rock and roll. He gives Layton a camera, which becomes a mini-game that unlocks more puzzles. ===Barton=== Barton is Inspector Chelmey's timid assistant. It is a little-known fact that he is actually 27 years old, despite his appearance. ==Unwound Future Characters== ===Future Luke=== Future Luke(Real Name: Clive) is the young man who meets Layton and Luke in the future, introducing himself as an older version of Luke. Luke explains the circumstances and situation of the future to the professor and his younger self, then joins their pursuit for the truth, and to save the Prime Minister. He is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal in English. ===Dr. Stahngun/Alan Dimitri=== Alan Dimitri, under the disguise of 'Dr. Stahngun', kidnaps the British Prime Minister Bill Hawke at his showing of his time machine. He used to be a research partner with Bill Hawk and Claire. He is voiced by Liam O'Brien in English. ===Bill Hawke=== Bill Hawke is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He is a serious man, who ends up being kidnapped by Dimitri. He used to be a research partner with Dimitri and Claire. ===Claire=== Claire is Professor Layton's old college girlfriend. She was admired by many. ===Celeste=== Celeste, or Salias in Japan, is Claire's younger sister who meets Layton and company in the future.
