The Apple Macintosh is both a hardware and software platform. The Macintosh can be a home computer, workstation, or server. When you buy a Macintosh computer, you will find that it has a Mac OS installation. You can install other operating systems on a Mac, but this page is about Mac OS.
"New World" Macs (iMac and later) have an ATI or nVidia graphics card; Mac OS will accelerate the 3D graphics for OpenGL games.
Today, most Macintoshes run Mac OS X. This can run newer Macintosh games. Older Macintosh games run through the Classic emulator. Some games refuse to work with Classic, in which case one must reboot to Mac OS 9 or find a Mac OS X version.
