The Mario Party series is a series of board game style video games for Nintendo platforms, featuring popular Nintendo characters.

The games all consist of playing mini-games on a board game-like interface. Players choose a character as their piece, and their space movement is randomly determined like rolling dice. While moving around the board, the goal is to get either the most coins, or the most stars, with stars being worth more than coins.

Coins are received by playing in the competitive or sometimes co-operative mini-games that come up often. There are also a variety of other things to do, such as buying things in shops on the game board to halt the progress of other players.

Future games in the series have added things like microphone support in Mario Party 6.
