Minecraft: Pocket Edition (MCPE or PE) was the former title of the mobile versions of Minecraft developed by Mojang AB. Minecraft: Pocket Edition introduced the Bedrock Engine, which was later ported to Windows 10, Gear VR, Apple TV, and Fire TV. These editions - as well as Minecraft: Pocket Edition, Xbox One Edition, and Nintendo Switch Edition - received a major crossplay update on September 20, 2017 that combined the Bedrock platforms under one title: "Minecraft".

Initially launched exclusively for the Xperia PLAY on Google Play for US$6.99 on August 16, 2011, it was launched for other Android devices on October 7, 2011,[citation needed] and for iOS on November 17, 2011.[1] A version for the Amazon Appstore was released on September 13, 2012.[2] Pocket Edition came to Windows Phone 8.1 on December 10, 2014.[3]

A demo/lite version of the game without world save functionality and containing limited inventory items was available until October 21, 2013.[citation needed]
