A modification (mod) is a term used for player made modifications to games, but may also refer to hardware modification. These can include partial conversions, total conversions, or even entirely new kinds of games. It's typically considered that a "mod" needs to have several new assets to be considered a mod. A new set of levels or a pack of new models are usually not considered to be a full-blown mod.
