The following has been directly copied from a press release by Mythic Entertainment.
- Mythic Entertainment is one of the most successful developers and publishers of massively-multiplayer online role-playing games in the world. Credited with 15 online games, including the award winning Dark Age of Camelot, Mythic's success is based in proprietary technology, superior game design and exemplary customer service delivered by a talented staff of more than 160 people. Dark Age of Camelot is played in almost every country in the world, and is available in seven languages. The game was released in Japanese in January 2005 and in March became the first international MMORPG available in Spanish. Mythic is currently developing the Warhammer MMORPG which will be available in 2007.
[edit] Mythic Entertainment History
Mythic Entertainment (formerly Interworld Productions changed to Mythic Entertainment in November 1997) was formed in October 1995 by Rob Denton and Mark Jacobs through the merger of two other game developers, Adventures Unlimited Software Inc. (AUSI) and Interesting Systems Inc. (ISI) and was originally named Interworld Productions. AUSI's founder, Mark Jacobs, is best known for creating the pioneering game Dragon's Gate, a text-based multi user role-playing game. ISI was co-founded by Rob Denton and also created a text-based multi-user roleplaying game named Tempest (renamed Darkness Falls) (sadly, with no relation to the movie or play).
During the next ten years Mythic created games both independently and with various partners including Kesmai Corp, Engage Games Online (Castles II), Centropolis Entertainment (Spellbinder: The Nexus Conflict), EA (Silent Death), and America Online (Splatterball). The company name was changed to Mythic in 1997.
None of their accomplishments during those first 5 years were really notable though. That is to say, you can look at the games list yourself and not remember a single one. Regardless, all of their bad accomplishments were whiped out in 2001 when they released Dark Age of Camelot. DAOC became a huge success, and it still one of the more active MMORPGs around. Over one million players in seven languages all over the world have played the game, saving Mythic from the tragic death that most game creators face.
Since then, they've released nothing, but are hard at work on a new online Warhammer game, and have released, 6 expansion packs for Dark Age of Camelot.
