A numeric measurement of latency, usually in milliseconds. In online games, ping is measured by sending a brief signal from the client to the server, and then timing how long it takes to receive the response - thus, it measures the time communication between client and server takes. An efficient ping algorithm will take the average of the last several pings, to avoid making inaccurate latency measurements in moments where it may spike up.
