The Sega 32X was a console peripheral for the Sega Genesis that would allow the system to upgrade to 32-bit quality graphics and sound. It was released in late 1994 in America as a sort of stop-gap for the forthcoming release of the Sega Saturn system in 1995 (originally intended for September of that year, but was moved earlier to May to beat the potential sales of the Sony PlayStation). A combined console version of the Sega 32X, called the Sega Neptune, was planned, but was never worked on or released.
