In World of Warcraft, the Shaman class is very versatile, and one can specialize in Elemental (ranged damage), Enhancement (melee damage) or Restoration (healing); Shamans use Totems to provide benefits to allies (or diminishing opponents' abilities or effectiveness) for a specific range and duration.
Originally restricted to the Horde races of the Orcs, Tauren and Trolls, Alliance players were given the option of playing the Draenei race with the launch of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade expansion; Alliance players were later granted the option to select Shaman when starting a new Dwarf character when World of Warcraft: Cataclysm launched.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm also saw the availability of the Goblin race for the Horde, who could also select Shaman as a class. World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria saw the introduction of the Pandaren to both the Horde and the Alliance, and either faction could now select Shaman when starting a new Pandaren character.
The Shaman used to wears leather armor until Level 40, at which time mail armor could be equipped, however, with the launch of World of Warcraft: Legion, Shaman can now equip mail armor starting at Level 1. Shamans wield maces, staves, axes, daggers and swords, and may also wield shields.
