Welcome to the site!

Hi! Welcome to gaming.wiki. Let me know if you have any questions. Some quick ways to get started:

 • Be sure to tell the community something about yourself on your user page.
 • You can also put a blog-like listing of your gaming.wiki articles on that page by writing Blog (squiggles included!) on it! See this page for more details.
 • And give your profile an icon/avatar. You can change/update your avatar by using the link at the top-right of your user page.
 • If you want to contact me with questions/concerns, I'm glad to help! Click here and edit the page.

Welcome to the community!

Template Paramaters

Im pretty sure it does work. Can you show me where you tried to get it to work? --Roblefko 14:00, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh you are right. Anyway, we will be upgrading to newer version of Mediawiki real soon. I will let you know. --Roblefko 14:36, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

WYSIWYG

Hi, i reverted your changes on the create forms. Wasn't sure why you decided to get rid of the wysiswyg feature. Anyway, if you want to create an opinion not using the wysiwyg feature, you can use Create Opinion Standard. --Roblefko 13:08, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Games Bottom

Good idea. I'll set up the Create Reviews form so that it automatically adds "by user ___" on top. --Roblefko 13:23, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Bugs

Hi Afker,

I noticed your bug reports

 • The bug concerning the tabs on your user page articles has been resolved.
 • The create page gets redirected to the standard text only version for browsers that cannot support the wysiwyg feature. Unfortunately, Opera is not supported as of this time.
 • User preferences in your Wiki account have also been disabled temporarily until we upgrade our version of Mediawiki. We should get upgraded very soon.

Let me know if you have any other questions

Admin

Congrats, you're in. Work hard on the site and it'll love you back, and be sure to help others! --DNL 18:48, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

thanks

oh yeah, should have remembered coming across that a couple of days ago. (lack of default param.s) -Tyroney

listpages

Listpages does not currently support union of categories...its on our long list of todos :) I will update the listpage documentation section with all the params Pean 02:42, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Main Page List Pages

Yeah, the right side can be done using listpages. Mock up the right side on this template maybe: Template:Main Page Right and if it looks good, we'll get the admins to vote on whether to change the main page. --Roblefko 05:05, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, what he said :) --DNL

hey

The source code is unfortunately not opensourced right now. It *will* be in the near future. We still have some things to iron out, including upgrading to the newer MediaWiki (We are fairly close to accomplishing this). I think once we are upgraded, it will also allow us to incorporate all the anti-spam tools that are available on other Wiki sites. In the meantime, I will contact Roblefko and DNL about how they can improve fighting the spam in a more automated way.

Let me know if you have any questions. By the way, we appreciate the work you've done so far. You've done an excellent job. Pean 13:42, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

CSS/Javascript

Hey, I saw your note on Pean's talk page. Thanks for being so enthusiastic! We can't open up for custom css/javascript yet, because the site is a bit tempermental still :) But we'll let you know as soon as we can! --DNL 14:12, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

points system

Its a combination of lots of different things including the number of comments/articles/edits you make, the popularity of the articles you write, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Keep up the good work. --Roblefko 21:04, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Alice Soft

I think you should build an Alice Soft section here. When you do, be sure to add those linkbox things on the pages here to the Alice Soft-specific wiki site. That'd be cool -- it'd mean more exposure for your wiki and a lot of incoming links, plus hopefully you'll be able to build up your community easier! --DNL

images

sorry, it is choosing the first image alphabetically by image name Pean 19:30, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Chinese Version

Hmm. Interesting. Ill get back to you on that one! --Roblefko 18:56, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

rss footeer

thanks for your feedback. i think we are going to try and cut down on the size/graphics and maybe only show sites that maybe relevant. Pean 14:54, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Interwiki link

You can all ready do that without the upgrade. to get to Wikipedia, type in w:page name here. To link to wiki, type in w:c:page name here, and to link to another wiki project, type in w:c:project name:page name here. I was about to ask Pean something when I saw your message on his page about that, and thought I'd help you out. False Prophet 13:12, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Wow, the sofware must me pretty out of date then. That'll get fixed soon. False Prophet 02:19, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Changes

Hi Afker, We are still doing some tweaking as a result of the upgrade. Just to give you a little update on the gaming.wiki site

 • I have imported wiki's interwiki data as of today, so it should now work. We are not on their regular nightly updating of this, so new entries might not show up until we get that up and running.
 • I enabled the customCSS and customJS options for this site -- can you try it out and let me know if there is anything else I can do to get you started here?
 • Regarding spam: Since the upgrade, I have seen those same talk pages coming through. We are now using Wiki's central w:Spam Blacklist, so those domains might just have to be added to it. We are also looking to add other wiki spam fighting tools as we go forward

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Thanks!

js

There was an old js file being included that no longer existed, so that is why the custom js wasn't properly working. I have fixed the problem. Can you try again and let me know if it works? Thanks Pean 18:57, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

your rating

makes me chuckle. You've been busy. Don't forget to drop by the Uesrbox Project sometime to colorize or otherwise format the userboxes you added to the list. (I wasn't sure of what would be the best scheme for some of them) -Tyroney

All the boxes that I care about are done, I think. -Afker 06:02, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

hey

I will investigate the js issues on logout

As for banned users, we don't feel that they should be banned from voting -- there is no real harm they can do, whereas comments they can spam / cause disruption

Pean 16:15, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to get that installed today, along with a few other anti-spam tools Pean 14:13, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

I haven't had much luck using AJAX on wiki before. But the first thing I should note is the use of your try{}catch{}. It's not a strong standard thing among many browsers and in many cases doesn't work right in javascript. If you look over here you'll notice that the try/catch statement is actually nested inside of an if which tries to do what it can before throwing you into a try/catch. Dantman (talk) 21:35, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Ratings Box

Ok, ill fix it. Thanks. Question, I'm going to create a section for upcoming games (new releases). Where can I find a list of them? --Roblefko 17:34, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

For PC game releases in Japan, I use Getchu's release calendar (need to be over 18 to enter site, as the great majority of PC games in Japan are adult-oriented). However, you might've noticed I gave up after 2 weeks of trying to keep track of them (I was creating general info pages for each game, which proved to be way too time consuming). I don't follow general releases of console or or American games in general (there may be specific titles I follow, in which case I use their respective official website). -Afker 00:02, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Left Side Main Page

I used some of the sections you proposed in your left side mockup, and mocked this up: User:Roblefko/Draft2. What do you think? If its good, we'll throw it up on main page, and we'll move popular opinions on the right above new opinions. Let me know what you think. --Roblefko 17:56, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Also, for the right side, how do you want to break up the sections: a section for 1) News, 2) Reviews, 3) Opinions ...Anything else? --Roblefko 19:36, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
