Sorority Life, commonly abbreviated to "SL", is open to any Facebook user (male or female). It offers a colorful experience indulging in glam, socializing, and (for those so inclined) attacking rivals.
You join the game by clicking the "Go to application" link on the Application's Facebook page or by clicking one of the invitations you may see on a friend's newsfeed.
You start with a few credits in various attributes (with differing effects) such as energy, stamina, confidence, and popularity. Most socializing (the main way of rising from one level to the next) uses energy, but energy, like the other attributes, is renewed over time, up to your current maximum. You can choose which of those maximum levels to increase with the few skill points you gain at each new level and occasionally as a reward for an activity. This choice can be fairly important, and is why the game is in a "Role Playing Games" category.
You pay a little "play money" for job training; thereafter you get an hourly salary; at higher levels you can pay a higher training fee for a more lucrative job. (Don't do it too soon after the last change or you will not recoup your training fee.) Money buys glam and other things (some of which have an upkeep cost); any not needed should be banked or it may be stolen by girls who succeed in an attack against you.
Your avatar is a slim model whom you can dress any way you choose (with what you have won or can afford). Some clothing is worth more in attacking or defending in a fight, so pick the attributes you want.
You can give any player one "vote" per day (either at the "catwalk" or with a button on the player's profile). Each recipient gets $50.
You can give free gifts to a limited number of players per day. There is some automation you can use, to see what each player's wishlist contains.
Getting your Facebook Friends to become your Sorority Life sisters (which the game calls joining your house - and you become part of their house in the same action) strengthens your game in a number of ways:
- You can send them gifts and broadcast messages to all at once.
- You can vote for up to 25 sisters with one click once a day.
- Their levels of the various attributes (confidence, popularity, etc.) are combined with yours in any fight you have.
- You can publish some of your successes to your Facebook wall and your friends can get bonuses by clicking the entry.
A side activity in the game is the earning of Brownie Points. You get a Brownie Point for each new level achieved and occasionally get one as a reward for an activity. You can also pay real money for them. Some of the most exclusive items of glam (including the best boyfriends) cost many Brownie Points.
