The third in the Splinter Cell series of games published by Ubisoft in 2005. The most notable difference in this iteration was a new cooperative multiplayer mode. Though very popular it was plagued by numerous bugs when it first came out, making it very difficult to finish a multiplayer level. The game came out on all platforms. Only the Gamecube and N-Gage versions were unable to include the "adversary" mode, where mercs and spies would be against each other.

[edit] Changes From Previous Games

  • An obvious graphical upgrade. Much better lighting effects.
  • More intelligent AI. They now notice when lights are turned off and when locks are broken. When they discover Sam Fisher, they will take cover and change positions when necessary.
  • A knife. Now, Sam Fisher is equipped with a small, sharp, knife to deliver a quick killing stab to anyone around. Or if you're not the violent type, the knife is also used to quickly (and loudly) break open locked doors when there is no time to pick them.
  • Multiple paths in each level. There is much less "Trial & error" gameplay because of this. For example, there can be multiple ways to get into some building: Find a pipe to climb up, enter a vent, jump in through a window, or slowly walk in through the front door.
  • More options are displayed with objectives - there are secondary & opportunity objectives that you dont need to complete. Some, you don't even know existed. Some objectives, if unaccomplished in earlier levels, are then accomplished in later levels through different means.

[edit] Story

European boxart

A couple of important mathematicians have gone missing! Terrorists of some kind or holding them! China and Japan are on the brink of war due to inexplicable hostile actions of China! Could there be a hidden sinister plot behind all of this, being controlled from within the government!?!? Can renowned not-remotely-retired-anymore Splinter Cell agent Sam Fisher save the day?!?
