Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (originally Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan) is a game released for the Famicom Disk System. It is a direct sequel to the original Super Mario Bros. that was released solely in Japan, whereas the Super Mario Bros. 2 in North America was an adaptation of Doki Doki Panic refashioned with Mario-related characters.

It is identical to that of Super Mario Bros. in that the player controls Mario or Luigi as he travels through several different worlds, each with four levels apiece, jumping across platforms and over enemies in his journey to defeat Bowser and to rescue the Peach.

It now has the addition of Poison Mushrooms that can make Mario lose his powers or his life, and warp tunnels that can bring players back to previous levels. Another notable change is the difference in Mario and Luigi's physics; while Mario plays just like the original, Luigi can jump higher and has less traction. The game is considered more difficult to play than Super Mario Bros.

This game was released in graphically updated form along with the other three American-released Super Mario Bros. games for the Nintendo Entertainment System in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System game compilation called Super Mario All-Stars.
