Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (originally Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan) is a game released for the Famicom Disc System. It is a direct sequel to the original Super Mario Bros. that was released solely in Japan, whereas the American Super Mario Bros. 2 was an adaptation of Doki Doki Panic refashioned with Mario-related characters.
[edit] Gameplay
It is identical to that of Super Mario Bros. in that the player controls Mario or Luigi as he travels through several different worlds, each with four levels apiece, jumping across platforms and over enemies in his journey to defeat King Bowser and to rescue the Princess. It now has the addition of power-down mushrooms that can make Mario lose his powers or his life, and warp tunnels that can bring players back to previous levels. The game is considered more difficult to play than Super Mario Bros.
[edit] Notes
This game was released in graphically updated form along with the other three American-released Super Mario Bros. games for the NES in the Super Nintendo game compilation called Super Mario All-Stars.
