Swordquest is a series of adventure games created by Atari for the Atari 2600. The original intent was to create a four-part series of games, each in a world based on the four primal elements (earth, fire, water, and air), where players would find clues to pages and panels within the included pack-in comic book by DC Comics by picking up and dropping off objects in certain rooms. The object is to collect all five clues. Players would have a chance to participate in a game playoff contest, where the winner would be awarded a prize valued at $25,000, created by Franklin Mint, which at the time was a subsidiary of Warner Communications as was Atari, Inc. and DC Comics.
So far, only three of the four games in this series were ever produced and released:
The fourth game, Airworld, was never finished or released. By the time the third game was released, Atari was taken over by the Tramiels, and instead of the intended playoff contest and prize, there were cash prizes of lesser value awarded to players.
