The Taito Corporation (タイトー株式会社, taitō kabushikigaisha?) is a Japanese developer of video game software and arcade hardware. Taito Trading Company was established in Manchuria by a Russian Jewish businessman named Michael Kogan. Written in kanji as 太東 (pronounced "TIE-toe"), it is a kanji acronym of either Pacific Ocean (太平洋, Pacific Ocean?) and Far East (極東, Far East?) or Jew (猶太, Jew?) (The latter is plausible because founder Michael Kogan was Jewish). Taito also imports and distributes American coin-op video games in Japan, as well as their own games all around the world. As of 2005, Taito Corporation is part of Square Enix.
