Tecmo Super Bowl is a multi-platform American football game for one or two players first released in 1991 on the NES as a sequel to Tecmo Bowl. It was later updated and released for the other systems before a final version of the game was released for the PlayStation in 1997. The game was unique at the time for its ability to save season statistical and standing data, previous football games did not have these features that are now taken for granted on the current generation platforms. Also the game was able to secure both NFL and NFLPA licenses and thus were able to use team names, logos, and player names.
