Required parameters

The following parameters are required. If they are not supplied, the line will still appear, but with a short note indicating what's missing.

  • title - You should know this. Usually the same as the name of the page.
  • image - Box art. If you don't have it, leave it blank. Please don't use "frame" or "thumb" tags here.
  • developer - Refers to the company that made the game. Was it Capcom? Was it id Software?
  • publisher - Refers to who put the game out. Usually GameFAQs has this information.
  • released - Date when the game came out. Consult GameFAQs. Listing the country/region is optional, but helpful. Don't use "United States" as the country unless you are sure the game wasn't released in Canada on that date as well.
  • genre - Refers to what kind of game it is. Is it a First-person shooter or an RPG? Make a judgment call after reviewing what sites such as GameSpot and IGN classify it as. Include more than one if necessary. Make sure the link leads somewhere.
  • mode - Refers to single player (99% of games have single player) and if there's any multiplayer. For multiplayer, include how many people if possible (such as 1-4 players, or 1-16 players online).
  • ratings - Refers to ESRB (US) or other content rating bodies, such as PEGI (EU) and CERO (JP). If you don't know, leave it blank. You can usually find them by looking at the box art, or in online stores. If it came out before ratings were imposed, use [[N/A]]. Please use the links found in the ratings help page when adding ratings. (For example, use [[ESRB: E]], not [[ESRB: Everyone]] or [[ESRB]]: Everyone.)
  • platforms - What systems the game came out for, such as Xbox, PC, or GBA.

Optional parameters

If the following parameters are not supplied, the line will not be displayed.

  • designer - Designers are the brains behind the project. Unless it's someone very well-known in the industry such as Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid), Shigeru Miyamoto (Mario series) or Will Wright (Sim City), leave it blank.
  • engine - Usually blank, unless it's a famous engine like Source.
  • status - Could be 'Beta' or 'Unreleased'. Omit for released games.
  • media - Refers to what the game actually came on. Do you play it off of a Cartridge or DVD? If the game is multiplatform, include all formats.
  • requirements - Usually reserved for PC game system requirements. You can also include how much space a console game takes on a memory card/hard drive.
  • input - Refers to what controller(s) are used to operate the game. If it's the standard system controller, leave this blank. Duck Hunt for NES, however, uses a light gun for input. Donkey Konga for GameCube uses the DK Bongo.
