Super Mario Kart is the first in the Mario Kart series. This video game made its debut in August 27, 1992 in Japan. Super Mario Kart pioneered the Kart racer genre of video games.

In the game the player chooses one of 8 playable characters to race on Mode 7 tracks. All of the characters in Super Mario Kart originated in the Mario Universe.

Game Modes

Single Player

There are 2 Modes to choose from when playing a single player game. These are:

  1. Mario Kart GP - In this mode you race against computer controlled opponents. There are three dificulty levels in this mode. These are the 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc.
  2. Time Trial - In this mode you race through any track in the shortest amount of time possible.

Multiplayer

  1. Mario Kart GP - Two players race against each other as well as computer controlled opponents.
  2. Match race - Two players race against just each other on the track of your choice.
  3. Battle mode - The objective of this mode is to use the items at your disposal to damage the other player. There are three balloons which rotate around both players. When one player is hit or runs into an item such as a turtle shell or banana peel that player loses a balloon. When a player loses all three balloons he or she fails at life.
