A class-action lawsuit against not just Sony Online Entertainment, but Sony as a whole, claims that the company "laid off a substantial percentage of its Sony Online Entertainment workforce, including a number of employees in the Network Operations Center," just two weeks prior to the infamous PlayStation Network security breach.

While exact details of what actually happened are unavailable, the complaint alleges that Sony wanted to upgrade its main development server, the PS DevNetwork, without losing more money in the process, and as a result fired a large number of its security employees before using the saved money to spend substantial amounts on the DevNetwork.

The suit was filed by New Yorkers Jacques Daoud, Felix and Jimmy Cortorreal on behalf of a much larger group. Among other demands, they are seeking actual damages equivalent to what was paid for the equipment and PS DevNetwork, and "appropriate retribution" for the rest of the group.
