Review Roundup for Modern Warfare 3

MW3BoxArt
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was finally released today, and the critics have spoken! Overall, the reviews have been very positive with many critics saying that, although the game hasn't changed too much and there are no revolutionary ground-breaking ideas, it is still one of the best multiplayer games and a very polished package overall.

The game currently has a metascore of 90 on Xbox 360 and 88 on PlayStation 3.

Score: A-

Although some elements of the game gives us both déjà vu, I can't help but acknowledge that each mode entertains us. Gamers that have played previous COD iterations can expect to be familiarized with how each mode works while also receiving moments of, "Oh hey, that's new." It's a solid addition to the Call of Duty family, and I'm glad to say the multiplayer remains addicting and is more balanced than ever.

Destructoid

Score: 9.5/10

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 treads familiar ground and focuses on tweaking rather than reinventing, and that's just fine. While there are no major revelations or surprises, this is still a gorgeously produced package that gives military shooter fans exactly what they want. There's a reason why Call of Duty is the most powerful videogame franchise of the modern era, and' Modern Warfare 3 serves as a reminder -- it's just that damn good at what it does.

GameSpot

Score: 85/100

Whatever diversions or innovations may lie in Modern Warfare 3's future, the competitive multiplayer still offers the same sweet satisfaction you've come to expect from the series. This is some of the best online shooter action around, and with the daunting challenges of Spec Ops and the exciting, globe-trotting campaign, Modern Warfare 3 stands tall as another great descendant of the game that changed a generation.

Game Informer

Score: 9/10

When it comes down to it, Modern Warfare 3 meets expectations. The core elements of multiplayer and the campaign remain fundamentally unchanged, but the game serves as a great example of how many subtle tweaks can add up to an improved overall product. Even with the recent turmoil at Infinity Ward, the remnants of that team (in conjunction with Sledgehammer) have put together a worthy sequel to one of the most successful franchises of all time.

IGN

Score: 9/10

Despite its flaws, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 takes the fantastic series we’ve come to love over the years and iterates on it with great success. The multiplayer is hands-down the best it has ever been, with more features, more modes and a ton of new levels and ways to interact via Call of Duty Elite. The singleplayer campaign and Spec Ops mode add value to the overall package, creating something that may not be perfect, but is too damn addicting to pass up.

Joystiq

Score: 4.5/5

Modern Warfare 3 is a great Call of Duty game, just as every other entry in the franchise is a great Call of Duty game. However, it shares more than quality with its predecessors – it, like its forefathers, leaves you waiting for something perfect.

GamePro

Score: 4/5

It will be yet another go-round on the same rollercoaster. And this time, to enjoy it fully, you won't have to measure up at a sign that says "you must be this obsessed with multiplayer to ride this ride."

Eurogamer

Score: 8/10

That the single-player story brings the Modern Warfare saga to a fairly definitive end is, then, cause for celebration. Whatever next year's entry brings, some measure of reinvention will be essential. For now, its exuberant blend of testicular bravado and blockbuster gloss ensures that Call of Duty retains its crown as the shooter genre's biggest, boldest rollercoaster ride for at least one more year.
