The new year is upon us, and your votes have been counted. The 2012 Community Choice Awards of 2012 for video games brought us some solid results. This past year had some great additions to our game library, and some games showed their force in the polls. Let's take a look at some of the results of each of the categories.
Just because we've tallied the votes, doesn't mean you still can't vote! The Top 10 lists will stay open. You may notice some of the results have changed since we've tallied! The more votes, the more accurate, so keep them coming in.
Game of the Year was the main battleground this year, with a total of 1355 votes. The two most popular choices, Assassin's Creed III and Halo 4 continiously traded blows for the top spot. As we tallied the votes, it came down to just a 3 vote differental. Assassin's Creed III came to overtake Halo 4, only for Halo 4 to respond and take the lead. The battle has been so back and forth, we've decided to rule things a tie.
Some games came out dominant in muliple categories. Assassin's Creed III would go on to take 5 awards (Game of the Year, Character of the Year, Weapon of the Year, Best Setting, Best Action/Adventure Game). Both Halo 4 and Mass Effect 3 would go on to take 3 awards.
The standout indie game this year was TellTale's The Walking Dead, which won both Biggest Surprise of the Year and Best Indie Game.
Some polls had some very close results, besides Game of the Year, Best Creature/Critter was decided by less than 20 votes. Rats from Dishonored would pull ahead over Promethean Crawlers from Halo 4. Biggest Surprise was won by 19 votes (Dishonored was second place).
Others were blowout victories, like Funniest Game of the Year for Borderlands 2, and Bad Piggies for Best Mobile Game.
