According to a Taiwanese component maker, production of the Playstation 4 might start as early as the end of this year to prepare for a 2012 launch. Not only that, but the new Playstation 4 is said to feature a movement- based controller, similar to Microsoft's Kinect. Both Foxconn and Pegatron Technology, who currently assemble the PS3, will once again be used to assemble the Playstation 4. An expected 20 million consoles are said to be shipped in 2012.
I will most certainly take this information with a grain of salt, if not an entire year's supply of salt. Seeing has how the PS3 released in 2006, and how Sony has always said they're shooting for the PS3 to be a 10-year cycle console, I doubt this report will turn out to be true. Also, let's not forget Sony is releasing the Playstation Vita this holiday season which will certainly take more of the spotlight at next year's E3. Releasing a new Playstation could adversly affect the sales of both the Vita as well as the PS3.
What do you think? Could there be any truth to this rumor?
