Yeah I can do that, I hadn't done it before only because I found it that way and thought maybe there was a reason for it. But yeah I'll add it to my todo list. -Tubedogg99 17:09, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ratings
The great majority of the Japanese adult PC games are not rated by the CERO. Instead, they are rated via the EOCS. I'm not sure about the DVDPGs. -Afker 04:41, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Hi there
Hi, I'm a helper on Wikia gaming stuff. I'm wondering if you are interested in helping out with the Wikia Gaming Hub. One thing that I feel you would be able to make a big difference is to keep an eye on any upcoming news/events for any games we have a wiki for, and leverage that to help attract attention to the wikis by adding the news (and the wiki) to the "New & Notable" section of the hub. If you have any other ideas on improving other aspects of the Gaming Hub so it'd draw more user attention and highlight more wikis, I'd be eager to hear them too! -PanSola 00:10, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks! It's the "New and Notable" section inside the "Game Wiki Highlights" box, on the top right of w:Gaming. -PanSola 08:37, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- Put news there? won't it mess up the wikis on feature?--Cs california 10:25, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Redundancy?
I'm wondering, are phrases like "RPG game" and "eroge game" redundent? Afterall, RPG is short for "Role Playing Game", and eroge is short for "Erotic Game"... -Afker 22:27, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Not sure I thought eroge games had sexual content and had some aspects of simulation such as dating --Cs california 22:29, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Um, how does whether they have sexual content and aspects of simulation relate to the redundancy question? -Afker 22:35, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- If you check wikipedia at Eroge it says that it is a anime-style game with sexual content. I guess it can count as a sub-genre for games such as simulations or RPGs. But mainly I think it is a style of how a game is presented, mainly with sexual content and anime --Cs california 22:43, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Uh, I still don't see how that is relevant to my question. The "ge" part of "eroge" stands for "game", and therefore my question is whether the phrase "eroge game" (and by the same logic the phrase "RPG game") is redundant. -Afker 22:54, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- If you check wikipedia at Eroge it says that it is a anime-style game with sexual content. I guess it can count as a sub-genre for games such as simulations or RPGs. Nvmind, I see where the confusion is coming from. I wasn't implying eroge are RPGs. Those are two separate cases using the same logic, where "game" is already part of the "short form". -Afker 22:56, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] "DVD-PG"
Just a heads up, DVD-PGs stand for "DVD Player Games". They are designed to be played via the DVD player. While the great majority of them are ports of PC eroge, the release date info should probably clarify which platform the listed date is for (DVDPGs are usually made several months or even years after the original PC version). I've edited 学園調教委員会~牝教師淫辱の放課後~ accordingly, but not sure if the format I did it was correct.
On a similar note, the release dates for Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII do not indicate which platform they were for. I assume those are the console version dates, which means the PC port release dates are missing. -Afker 22:40, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- I thought they were the same only one is in CD format and the other is DVD--Cs california 22:45, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Nope. The ones you are thinking of would be called "DVD version" or "DVD-ROM version". On another note, usually a different company/brand handles the production of the DVD-PG port than the company/brand that handles the original PC version. -Afker 22:50, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Some package images might not be a good idea to upload...
Spank Art Wiki doesn't even have any pornography, and Wikia has shut it down (see w:Forum:Spanking art wiki). Some of the package images of the Japanese games are just out right rated R. -Afker 06:09, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Does not matter when we joined our things should take presidency since it was the status quo before. There were no agreements in removing certain things (at least I was not aware of any) so if the game has rated R images just leave them we can just block it with the js features. If wikia gets their un-movable side bar I don't see why not. Look at Uncyclopedia when they merged, most of their rules still take presidency --Cs california 10:44, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Portals
Heya!
I'm trying really hard to keep the front page from appearing like a link farm. The featured article is is still there, but I moved it down. One area that I still want to work on is the community section. I think that would be a great link to the community portal.
For the portals, my approach right now is just to create something with the bare basics, then offer the opportunity to add more to it later. Anywhere that there was actual content, I was planning to add it back once I got finished creating the basic layouts. Perhaps I just went too far in the other direction after seeing relatively little activity on the portal pages.
--KyleH
(talk) 00:17, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'll just take a bit of a break while you play around with the portal design some. Just some notes with my thoughts though:
- The Events and To-Do sections seem to be like they'll be empty a lot of the time. Featured content (which can contain both content from this wiki and other wikis ... perhaps one of each) and Browse, as well as the Wiki List at the bottom seem much more important.
- I agree we should combine both sites contents but for the To do section it is to replace the Collaboration of the month thing so people who are interested in specific genera can work on preferred pages rather than have people work on stuff they dont like.
- For the portal pages, we don't need to transclude everything like I was going to do, but I'd still like to transclude the lists of wikis. The section edit links should make those easier to edit, and doing so makes it easier to automate the generation of the Portal:Full Wiki List.
- --KyleH
(talk) 00:29, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Although it makes it easier there will be some will overlap but I see what you are saying. --Cs california 00:34, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Games Top
Heya ... I say you talking about the mess that is the article list here. I plan on setting pywikipediabot to clean up some of that, but I wanted to discuss with you exactly how you think it should be done. A lot of those pages are pretty worthless, but if we approach it from the right direction, I think that there is some cool stuff that we can do with the data along the way. I'm just not really sure exactly what. Do you have any thoughts? What specifically did you want to do with it? --KyleH
(talk) 02:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- ok, so I think I have figured out a good way to proceed. There are a number of these pages that have a contributor other than the bot. I've built a list of those pages, and for them, I am replacing Template:Games Top with Template:Gaming Merge. I am going to then delete everything that uses Template:Games Top because what is left will only be stuff that was generated automatically. I'm going to see what else we can do to automatically clean up the articles that are left, but I just wanted to give you a heads-up on how I'm starting out. You can view the bot progress here. --KyleH

[edit] New portal on Wikia Gaming
A few of us on the Wikia Gaming Team (specifically myself, Kyle, and Doug) are creating and working on a new portal at Wikia Gaming, called Free to Play Games. Please stop deleting/moving/etc. any pages/sections/etc. relating to this portal. Thanks. JoePlay (talk) 21:01, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Heya Cs_california. This portal is kind of an experiment that we're trying out because some of our largest wikis are for Free-to-Play games (mostly browser-based MMOs). It's a little bit different from the other portal pages because most of the games in it could easily be categorized elsewhere (and should be), but I'd really like to experiment around with it as it is for the time being. In the future, it might be more appropriate to classify it as a "project" or something of that nature, but that's something we can discuss later. --KyleH
(talk) 23:50, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Ah I see so should I remove it form the top bar?--Cs california 23:52, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- We'd like for it to be on the top bar eventually, but we'd like to keep the Free to Play name. Perhaps once Doug and Joe build it out a little bit, we can discuss some changes? --KyleH
(talk) 23:59, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Ah I see I am just use to the termonology freeware games because it is simpler and shorter--Cs california 00:02, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I understand. Free-to-play is a designation that specifically applies to multiplayer online games rather than encompassing the entire library of freeware games. Depending on how this experiment works, we may want to expand the project to all freeware games, but we're going to try out "Free to Play" for the time being. --KyleH
(talk) 00:13, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- If its only MMO games you can separate the MMO portal into two sections to save space. It seems repetitive if it is just MMO games--Cs california 00:16, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's a little bit redundant, but as I said, it's an experiment. We'll see how it goes. --KyleH
(talk) 00:39, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- C's, I appreciate your enthusiasm here, but would like to avoid confusion and redundancy. In an effort to maintain the integrity of the gaming portals, I would like to refrain from creating tabs without content, and avoid the Freeware notation all together. Freeware is typically a term used for free software, whereas the gaming industry is moving towards F2P or free to play. We are attempting to organize a portal around a genre as Kyle and Joe have both pointed out, and build it before we criticize it. If you have any questions, please let us know. Thanks. -- Doug

[edit] Pinball Wiki assistance requested
Hello! Thank you for the greetings. It's good to finally be getting back to work here. To the end, I wonder if I can ask some assistance.
I am the administrator of the Pinball Wiki. What I need assistance with is in figuring out how and where it fits into Wikia Gaming. Though it clearly is a game, pinball is such a unique creation that it somewhat defies categorization. Between that and the quickly evolving nature of wikis in general and Wikia Gaming in specific, I'm a bit at wit's end on how exactly to correctly promote this wiki in this venue. If you could give me any pointers I would greatly appreciate it.
Cheers! Fractalchez 22:41, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Related Links Header
Heya!
We've been trying to think of ways to make it easier for people to navigate around the site and find their way to the portals and the wikis (especially if they come in off of a search engine ... Google is our largest referrer). To that end, Joe and I have been working on a header that we can add to article pages where there is a dedicated wiki, as well as a link to the appropriate portal. Eventually we could also add other relevant links to the header, but this is a start. I noticed that you moved the ones that Joe was working on to the bottom of the page. I refined the design a little so that it matches the homepage and the portals and hopefully helps create a consistent look throughout the site. Check out the example I set up on the Call of Duty page and let me know what you think. If you don't like it, what do you think would improve it? I'd like to keep it at the top so that it is obvious to anyone visiting the page who might not be familiar with the site or the layout of a typical wiki, but we could left- or right-justify it rather than keeping it centered. Either way, let me know what you think.
Thanks! --KyleH
(talk) 21:19, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- (moved this from User_talk:KyleH)
- Problems with the header is it is not a reliable source to tag on every game with a series via different genres and links are generalize and would provide more topics and less specific information.
- Changes that I would suggest are:
- Links to specific pages such as for call of duty it goes to [1] within the wiki.
- Game series links should go to the wiki.
- Do not link to the portals as they are not consistant with all games and can be found easily on the sidebar. instead just add a category on the bottom independant of the template.
- A top bar may cause inconsistencies in page design with games that have no wikis.
- --Cs california 03:19, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- If you can also encourage people to link up detail walkthough info on to walkthrough sections so it would be:
- Game walkthrough on Wikia gaming (general) => specific level details/element details (the other wiki)--Cs california 03:53, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- Heya. I made a few changes to template to address some of the issues brought up. First of all, I added the ability to link to a specific article within a target wiki rather than just the whole wiki itself. That makes the wiki link a little bit more relevant to the article. Second, you can leave off the wiki link or the portal link which allows the template to be used on articles where there is no relevant wiki, or on articles where you want to leave off the portal. Examples here.
- The problem that we're seeing is that right now, traffic on the wiki has a very high bounce rate. People come in from Google, look at one article, then leave the wiki without clicking on anything else. The portal links on the sidebar are good and all, but they aren't very inviting for someone to click on. I really like the idea of adding walkthrough, cheats, etc. links as well, but I think that this is a good way to start.

- I see. Grounds for improving a page, rather than deleting it with an incorrect explanation, I suggest, on a wiki that is still needing gaps filled. Especially when the page says at the top "(page under construction)".
- I studied the infoboxes and found nothing suitable. Expanding on what I've just said in a note to Angela (on another site), Facebook games could be a whole new class of game for this site, deserving their own infobox. Probably the same sort of thing is on other social networking sites, but Facebook is the only one I'm familiar with.

That's fine.. I plainly stated that it was a work in progress.. I wanted to get some information on here that I could work around. I'm not really to worried about it, and will not pursue it any farther. I will just work with the Other wiki site instead.

- If you wanted to just combine all the pages. Or use the preview button because it looked like a mess with indentation problems and many redlinks. Several of those pages looked like they were just several lines that could have been combined. --Cs california 01:21, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] User pages
Hi, I noticed that at the top of Userpages, Talk pages etc. there is a little "User bar". How do you do them? Thanks, theg721 from the Risk Wikia! P.S. How do you do those User blogs?
[edit] New Character pages
Are there any set limits to how important a character must be before adding it to this wiki? Because I wanted to expand on the Spyro sections by adding some character and game articles, but I'm not sure what the rules are for adding new characters (I.E is it only main characters which get put on this wiki or can it also be bosses or other important characters?

[edit] Wouldn't it make it easier...
To make like a bulletin board ( Page) showing what articles need to be edited ( Like stubs ) or what needs to be created... ect.. Because I would really like to help contribute by adding information on games that need it. --Kevinsims22 02:11, 26 May 2009 (UTC)Kevinsims22

[edit] Bubble Symphony
Why did you delete it? 81.17.198.126 10:41, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Template box was not fully filled and it looked like a quick cut paste. If you want to improve it I will recover it for you --Cs california 10:31, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ok I will try to do more to it. How much stuff does it need to survive? It is hard to find anything about the game if I recall right...81.17.198.126 06:47, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- Is it okay now? 81.17.198.126 11:55, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

hello Cs california. i was just wondering. i have created a new wiki called super smash bros. revolution wiki. the link to it is smash4ideas.wikia.com. how do i get people to visit my wiki?--Blablobb 15:19, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- Make lots more pages add a logo is all I can say. But I would suggest you ask some of the fan-non people--Cs california 05:50, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Your edits, yuk!
- Could you please comment your edits with reasons?
- Your last edits were plain vandalism!
- Examples:
- Parabellum/Nav: 12:48, September 9, 2009 vs Current revision as of 22:20, September 9, 2009(your edit), where you mutilated the layout of my navigation-box.
- Parabellum: Current revision as of 22:16, September 9, 2009, where you pasted-in old text that was updated in Parabellum/Gameplay
Edit: ok i just fine-checked the text and seems its not the old text, but still moving contents of one page into another without commenting your edit is not polite to say the least...--©TriMoon™ 21:54, September 9, 2009 (UTC)
- I left a special note inside the page using html-comments and on the Talk:Parabellum page, to only edit sections asking for "cleanup".
- If this is how this wiki handles articles, then please infom me asap so i can move to another one.
- I will refrain from editing that mini-wiki until this is resolved.

- All I did was condense the gameplay into the general information page rather than create more pages. Is it really necessary to create a page just for gameplay? I can undrstand the Achievements since it is very. But all I did was merge a page which is NOT vandalism. Just wanted to condense the information since the main page was empty --Cs california 02:52, September 10, 2009 (UTC)
- The vandalism i mentioned, see above, is in respect to Parabellum/Nav. If you would have done your edit like this instead, it would have accomplished your goal without mutilating the layout. --©TriMoon™ 10:04, September 11, 2009 (UTC)
- Oh ok, I thought that was not necessary since there was already a Nav link on the top of the template and someone who would be looking for gameplay info would look on the front page similar to all other pages here.--Cs california 11:18, September 11, 2009 (UTC)
