wooga is a social network game developer located in Berlin, Germany.[1] The company develops free-to-play browser-based games for social networks like Facebook and is currently the largest European social games developer and also the world's 8th biggest game developer (by monthly active users) on the Facebook platform as of June 2010.[2]

The name "wooga" is a contraction of the sentence “world of gaming” and is written without capital letters.[3]


wooga was founded in January 2009 by Jens Begemann (CEO) and Philipp Moeser (CTO).[3]

In July 2009 wooga launched its first game, Brain Buddies. The game reached 5 million monthly players 3 months after launch.[4]

The company received EUR €5 million in a round of funding led by Balderton Capital in November 2009. [5] Holtzbrinck Ventures, which had provided funding earlier that year, also participated in this round.[6]

In February 2010 wooga launched its second game, Bubble Island, which reached 4 million monthly players in 8 weeks.[3]

In May 2010 wooga launched its third game, Monster World.[7]


According to AppData, in late June 2010 wooga had a total of ca. 9.7 million monthly active users and 1.2 million daily active users.[8]
